Sažetak:
Anthracene moiety is commonly encountered in various organic molecules used in many fields, e.g. as semiconductors in electronics, organic light-emitting diodes, fluorescent probes, and pharmaceuticals. [1] Because of this it is of utmost importance to develop synthetic pathways to anthracene derivatives bearing different substitution patterns. Whereas disubstituted anthracenes at positions 9 and 10 are easily available, reports on efficient synthesis of other disubstituted anthracene derivatives are scarce, and often involve very tedious synthetic procedures. Within the scope of our investigation concerning the photochemical reactivity of different classes of aromatic phenols [2] we had to develop a synthetic pathway to anthrol carbaldehydes 1-4, versatile synthons for the preparation of many anthrol derivatives. Although these are simple molecules, only preparation of 1 and 2 has been described. However, the described synthetic procedures suffer from low yields and difficulties in purification steps. [3] Therefore, we were prompted to develop a new, easier and more convenient approach to the synthesis of anthrol carbaldehyde derivatives. Herein we report optimized synthetic pathways to 1-4 from available and cheap anthraquinones.
