Some memory span functions and motor speed in schizophrenics treated with olanzapine versus fluphenazine
he aim of the study was to compare the effect of olanzapine versus fluphenazine treatment on memory span functions and motor speed function. Eighteen schizophrenic out-patients, aged 25-61 (average 37 years), all meeting diagnostic criteria for schizophrenia according to the DSM-IV criteria (APA, 1994) were included in the study. They were randomly assigned either to 22 weeks of olanazapine or fluphenazine treatment. Neither olanzapine or fluphenazine treatment proved to have any effect on immediate memory span functions (serial digit learning and auditory verbal learning), neither on simple motor speed function.
