Adhesion based electrochemical sensors for environmental research
Environmental application of electroanalytical techniques has been traditionally based on measurement of redox or adsorption reactions of natural constituents or pollutants at electrodes. A common characterization of organic matter in aquatic environment, such as seawater, has been performed by measuring complexing capacity or direct measurement of surfactant activity of a water sample. Our goal is to develop electrochemical tools for direct measurement of spacial and temporal distribution of dissolved molecules and particles based on their interfacial reactions: adsorption and adhesion. Hypothesis is that interfacial properties of organic particles measured electrochemically are correlated with the interfacial properties that govern the interfacial interactions in natural aquatic environment.
