Finite Element Simulation of the Small Punch Test
In this paper influence of several key test parameters on SPT results are studied using FEM model. Small punch test (SPT) is based on testing tiny disks by means of continuous loading with a spherical indenter. Small Punch Test is used for definition of some mechanical characteristics: yielding stress and ultimate stress ; fracture toughness. For the best understanding of experiment the axisymmetric finite element model was developed. In order to simulate plasticity, damage and fracture, the continuum damage model by Gurson- Tvergaard- Needleman was used. Based on FE simulation results, deformation process of disk sample and effects of some test parameter: effect of sample thickness ; effect of friction ; effect of clamping force were studied.
