The impact of empathy to the perception of spoken messages in oral traditions
The purpose of presentation is to describe a function of intersubjectivity in the perception of spoken message as a part of artistic performances in the oral traditions. As performance is described as a mode of language use or as a way of speaking, it is especially important for communication in groups and cultures that base their identity on oral transmission of values. The analysis is based on the collection of acoustic records of traditional oral songs and narratives that was assembled during field work research of traditional oral poetry on the eastern Adriatic coast. It includes musical features and ethno musicological approach to the songs. Collected material contents traditional lyric songs and ballads so the emotional aspect is very important feature. The paper is an attempt to place this complex phenomenon into the wider cultural context and to connect common cultural and communicational tendencies through the sociological and semiotic specifics.
Traditional songs; intersubjectivity; communication; empathy.
