Sažetak:
The goal of this study was to compare the results via factor analysis between the data from the American and Croatian standardization, on the Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II). The BDI-II is a 21-item self-report instrument measuring the severity of depression in adults and adolescents. The BDI-II measures two aspects or factors of human behavior that is considered relevant for depression diagnosis: Cognitive/psychological and Somatic-Affective. These factors are also represented in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. Since BDI-II reflects highly intercorrelated factors, we conducted an iterated principal-factor analysis in which squared multiple correlations were employed for the initial communality estimates. Promax rotation was used to identify the self-reported dimensions of depression. Graphical (scree) test was used to calculate the eigenvalues, and the results were very similar. The eigenvalues were: 8, 48, 1, 33, 1, 09, 0, 95 i 0, 84 for the normative sample. The correlation between factors was 0, 60. It was interesting to see that the two factors that we got in our standardization did not exactly match the original American. This study was aimed at explaining why the factor loading changed from Cognitive and Somatic-Affective to Cognitive-Affective and Somatic.
