Sažetak:
The spring peak of fission products (primarily 90Sr and 137Cs) fallout deposition on land is generally attributed to seasonal meteorological phenomena that give rise to substantial interchanges between the stratosphere and troposphere. Contrary, on the sea, at most sites neither direct measurements in precipitation nor surface water samples seem to systematically reflect this annual fallout activity maximum. However, using the long-term measurements of the Adriatic sea-water radioactivity, a tendency was noted for the maximum activity concentrations to occur in the first half of the year. The Adriatic Sea being the northern part of the Mediterranean Sea, which is, itself, a relatively shallow and partially enclosed sea, is highly influenced by nearby high mountains, especially the Alps, but also the Apennines and Dinarides. Therefore, elevated activities in the samples of sea-water collected in the first half of the year compared to those collected in the second, are most likely only a repercussion of the common spring activity peak on the surrounding land.
