A Complete Nonlinear Anisotropic Incremental Deformational Model of Woven Fabric in Plane Stress
In previous work a nonlinear micromechanical model has been developed for the cases of uniaxial and biaxial tension. However, in order to perform a numerical analysis of fabric as a membrane in plane stress, e.g. by the finite element method, a complete material stiffness matrix needs to be defined, including the shear modulus. For that purpose, a theoretical estimate of the tangential shear modulus of woven fabric is given in terms of current deformed state and certain factors of influence, such as friction and lateral stiffness in contact between the yarns. Values of model parameters can be obtained via the comparison of numerical results and experimental evidence of bias stretch. Relationship between nonlinearity and anisotropy of woven fabric is addressed using the methodology of polar diagrams of tangential elastic moduli.
