Sažetak:
Hantaviruses are carried and transmitted by wild rodents and have recently also been identified in multiple species of shrews, moles and bats. In 2007 partly genome sequences of a new shrew-borne hantavirus, named Seewis virus (SWSV), was amplified from the lung tissue of a single Sorex araneus (Eurasian common shrew) caught in Switzerland. Thereafter, SWSV has been described from several European countries including Hungary and Slovenia, countries bordering Croatia. Croatia is a well known endemic region for several zoonotic agents including various hantaviruses. So far, four hantavirus species have been proven in Croatia: Puumala and Dobrava virus with medical importance, and Tula and Saaremaa (Dobrava virus - genotype Kurkino) viruses with uncertain potential to cause human infections. Here we present the first evidence and molecular and phylogenetic analysis of SWSV in Croatia.
