Attitude of the Youth towards the Professional Orientation: Pilot Research by Method of the Focus Group
Subject of this paper is the professional orientation of the youth. Analyses of the youth conducted during the last decade support the idea of their modifications as a social group. For instance, Ule points out the changes in the youth’s social group reflected in the field of privacy, family, work, politics, self-realisation and the social affirmation. This author emphasizes the changes in the youth’s system of general values, and demonstrates the value system of individualisation based on the idea of “obligation to oneself”. These changes have implied a transformation of the youth into the age group with no significant differences. Namely, the traditional concept of youth as a life period when a person “becomes” someone or modifies to someone other than himself, has replaced the new perception of the youth as a period when someone “is”, as if being a student, a consumer, an employee and alike. The analysis of the youth’s attitudes towards the professional orientation offers a more comprehensive consideration of the youth as a social group. Also, it points out dominant trends in the complete Croatian society. In another words, the professional orientation, which is comprehend as a choice of profession and career’s planning, enables a diagnostics of social-economic trends. From the methodology aspect, the youth’s attitudes were approached by qualitative method of the focus group. The intention was to better understand the youth’s behaviour, their attitudes and relations towards the choice of profession and career’s planning. The basic assumption was that the adequate concern on the professional orientation of the youth helps to create a productive society and satisfied individuals.
