Cognitive processing of various Croatian negations
Languages across the world share a universal feature - sentence negation, expressed throughdifferent syntactic rules. Earlier research reported a significant difference between cognitive processingof affirmative and negative sentences. According to the Situational model, the processing of negativesentences takes more time because it includes several levels of processing. No experiments withdouble nagation and negative concord are found, but it can be assumed that the processing of doublenegative and negative concord is even more complex. In learners of Croatian as a second language, negative concord is perceived as difficult, but there are no experimental results available to supportthis. The main goal of this study is to explore the differences in processing of affirmative and negativesentences as well as negative concord in native speakers of Croatian. Also, the study aims atinvestigating the negative transfer in successive Croatian-English bilinguals.
