The Role of Information Technology in Human Trafficking and Terrorism and their Prevention
Widespread use of information and communication technologies in all aspects of society has a huge influence on existing and new forms of criminal activities, especially in regards to human trafficking. Today’s role of internet and other modern technologies can be viewed from two aspects. Positive role of ICT is reflected through its use in prevention and detection of human trafficking and also in its use in education and dissemination of information that can help prevent human trafficking. On the other side, there is also very pronounced negative role of internet and modern technologies. Huge number of people that use social networks, non-existent barriers in establishing first contact and recruitment of victims, wide range of available personal data of potential victims, advertising for the purpose of exploitation of human trafficking victims and as a special problem – communication that is taking place in DeepWeb and DarkNet for the purpose of human trafficking. In this presentation authors are talking about current regulatory framework and its readiness to give an adequate answer to above mentioned challenges.
