Consolidation and Effective Synthesis of Traffic Sciences - Basic Issues and Recommendations
The basis of the study of traffic sciences as synthetic scientific field consists in the traffic phenomenon related to transportation or transfer of people, goods and information via various traffic network facilities. The scientific description, classification, explanation and prediction provide the base for real implementation of traffic technologies that solve in practice the needs for physical and virtual mobility. Here, traffic sciences cannot be a mechanical sum of concepts and models borrowed from classical technical and social disciplines. In order to justify the independence and central position of the field, traffic sciences have to be a coherent systematised entity with clearly defined central object of research, deep theoretical concepts, developed methodological approach, classifications, etc. The paper evaluate the first phase of establishing traffic sciences and technology as a new field different from classical sciences. Initial integration of contributions from other established disciplines are discussed and necessary consolidation and effective synthesis of relevant contributions are suggested. The key issues for further effective synthesis of traffic sciences based on systemhood properties are recommended.
