Sažetak:
Vibrational temperatures in the atmospheres of nine M type giants of luminosity class III and subtypes M2-M8 located in the Galactic plane have been determined from the $\gamma$ band system of the TiO molecule. The relationship between $T_{exc}$ and $T_{eff}$ has been established in agreement with the chosen $T_{eff}$ calibration scale. The deviation of $T_{exc}$ with recspect to $T_{eff}$ for our stars has been used as an indicator of the depth of the atmospheric layers in which the molecular bands are formed.
