Child and Adolescent Clinical Psychology: Research Review

The Clinical Child Psychology: Research Preview is a comprehensive and practical textbook that helps bridge the gap between theory and research across a wide spectrum of psychological problems in childhood and adolescence. The book is divided in 4 main parts, the first of which sets out research framework in the field. In second part, 9 measurement instruments are presented, with their psychometric qualities and main guidelines for their use. In third part, problems that commonly occur in childhood and adolescence are described respectively with the short presentations of the main research results, including: anxiety and anxiety sensitivity, somatization, psychosomatic symptoms, depression, hyperactivity and aggression. Part 4 deals with psychological aspects of health problems including eating disorders, diabetes, recurrent abdominal pain, asthma, headaches and syncope. Each chapter opens with the short description of the aforementioned psychological construct or health problem, followed with the research results in representative samples of children and adolescents (from 100 to 3000 subjects), describing age and gender specifics of the questioned construct and its relations to numerous personal (ways of coping, self esteem, empathy, etc.) and contextual factors (family relationships, stressful life events, etc.). Clinicians and researchers will find in this book a stimulating collection of research data that will encourage them to do more theoretical and empirical research efforts in the field of child and adolescent mental health. Practitioners will find useful guidelines for their everyday work with children and adolescents.
