Sažetak:
Sport is an area in which participants often experience high level of pressure and stress, which can lead to anxiety. The aim of this study is to examine the differences in trait anxiety between adaptive, maladaptive and non-perfectionists as well as between male and female judo players. We expected female athletes to express higher levels of trait anxiety than male athletes and that maladaptive perfectionist would express higher trait anxiety than the other two groups. The sample consisted of 106 Croatian judo players (international level competitors). There were 70 male and 36 female participants. Participants filled questionnaire that consisted of two scales: SCAT (Martens, 1977) and PANPS (Terry-Short et.al.1995). Results showed significant difference on trait anxiety between male and female judo players. In line with our expectations female athletes score higher on trait anxiety than male athletes. ANOVA showed significant differences indicating that maladaptive perfectionists have higher trait anxiety than non-perfectionists. However, no significant differences were found between othergroups. Thereforeourhypothesiswasonlypartiallyconfirmed. Thereisalsosignificant correlation between trait anxiety and maladaptive perfectionism (0, 368**) which confirms our hypothesis and corroborates previous findings (Martens et. al. 1990). Slade&Owens(1998)intheirDualprocessmodelofperfectionismsuggestedthatathleteswho have more pronounced adaptive or maladaptive form of perfectionism will express differences before and subsequent to competition. In this research we examined the differences in trait anxiety and practical implications of the results.
