Sažetak:
The concepts of behaviour patterns in conflicts are known within the theory of conflict management while developmental and theories of social learning suggest that they are transferred generationally from parents onto children. The aim of this paper is to determine the connection between parental attitudes towards behaviour patterns in social conflicts ( winning, avoidance/adjustment, cooperation) and also to determine the contribution of parental attitudes to each of the child's behaviour patterns. In Rijeka, 404 parents (M=40, ages 27-54 ; 79% mothers) have, anonimously and voluntarily with informed consent, filled in a questionnaire with the Scale of attitudes towards behaviour patterns in social conflicts of parents and with the Scale of estimate of children's patterns of behaviour in conflicts (M=10 years, ages 7-15 ; 51% boys). The parents attitudes towards winning and avoidance/adjustment are weakly positively and towards winning and cooperation weakly negatively correlated. The winning behaviour of children is in weak to moderate positive correlation with avoidance and in weak to moderate negative correlation with cooperation behaviour in conflicts. Parents attitudes towards winning are weakly positively correlated with winning behaviour and weakly negatively correlated with cooperation behaviour of their child. Parents attitudes towards avoidance/adjustment are weakly positively correlated with avoidance behaviour and weakly negatively with cooperation behaviour of their child. Parents attitudes toward cooperation are weakly to moderately positively correlated with cooperation behaviour of their child. There is no age correlation with the observed constructs in either parents nor children while the fathers more often stated their own attitudes toward winning and the mothers toward cooperation. By utilizing regression analyses it has been determined that, based on the parents attitude toward winning, the future behaviour winning can be predicted and, based on the parents attitude toward avoidance/adjustment, the future behaviour of avoidance int he child, and according to the parents attitude toward cooperation the future cooperation behaviour of the child can be predicted. These insights could be relevant in the planning of prevention of undesirable behaviour in one segment of children at risk. The results confirm previous theoretical insights about primary parental influence in the shaping of children's behaviour and suggest we should simultaneously work with both parents and the children who are considered at risk on changing the attitudes towards a more constructive behaviour in conflict situations.
