O sudbini spomenika Grguru Ninskome nakon 1929. godine

Since Ilyrism Croatian national collective identity in historiography and litarature was based on different narrative images of our brave ancestors and their war or epic heroism. One of the then created cultural historiographic myths was that one of medieval Croatian bishop Gregory of Nin (croatian: Grgur Ninski). In time, Gregory of Nin -that in 1985 writes Neven Budak - "lifted up on high pedestal of fighter against Dalmatians Romans and the Roman Pope". Cultural and historical memory that is tied with Gregory of Nin changed in accordance with the change of state ideology. Historians and politicians emphasized in their disourse about Nin Bishop invented motives of his struggle for the Glagolitic alphabet, against Italian or against the Vatican, the South Slavic unity or for Croatian cultural autonomy. The place that bishop of Nin had in the national mythology is reflected in what the small nations serve as a best "pulse" of nationalis: in the public statues. Tere are three statues of Gregory of Nin in Croatia -in Split, Varaždin and Nin. The Gregory of Nin's statue in Split however had an unusual history. It was installed and destroyed, its location had been changed, and the history of its destiny was and still is largely a reflection of political circumstances. This article discusses the destiny of the Gregory of Nin's statue from the time of its installation into the Peristyle of the Diocletian's Palace to its installation in front of the Golden Gate where it stands now. Article researches a previously unknown archive material of the meetings of the Council of Municipal Affairs and the Council for Education, Science and Culture between 1952 and 1954, to discuss the fate of the moment of Gregory of Nin.
