Psoriasis of the face and scalp
The scalp is a well-known predilection site for psoriasis. Scalp psoriasis can be psychologically and socially distressing. Its clinical expression is rather variable: sometimes the entire scalp is involved, sometimes the involvement is restricted to some plaques. Itch and scaling are the leading symptoms. In erythrodermic and generalized pustular psoriasis, the loss of scalp hair is common, however, hair loss has also been described in some cases of chronic plaque psoriasis. Scalp psoriasis combined with scarring alopecia has also been reported. Various antipsoriatic treatments are effective in the treatment of scalp psoriasis, e.g., topical corticosteroids, salicylic acid, tar, dithranol, calcipotriol and phototherapy (UVB). Facial psoriasis is rather rare, however, because of the visibility of the lesions and very modest therapy modalities it is very distressing for patients. We present clinical forms and treatment schedules for face and scalp psoriasis.
